Abstract
During the first few years after its inception, NIDA administrators were selected by the government and nominated by royal appointment. A group of NIDA faculty members then coalesced to discuss and share their democratic viewpoints. These conversations led to a call for the self-selection of the position of president instead of the appointment of the government’s nominee.
Later,on November 20, 1973,NIDA Council approved a resolution supporting the selection of NIDA’s president by a committee representing the Institute’s faculty members and officers. This decision has been widely regarded as the first step toward democratic development within the Institute through truly listening to the voice of the majority.
